Why Post-Renovation Cleaning Is Specialized

Renovation dust is unlike normal dust — it contains drywall, silica from cutting tile or stone, sawdust, paint particles, joint compound, and adhesive residue. Standard cleaning spreads it. Specialized post-renovation cleaning captures it. The difference matters because renovation dust settles on every surface, gets pulled into HVAC, and can cause respiratory irritation for weeks if not properly removed.

The Process We Use

HEPA-filtered vacuums first, top to bottom. Microfiber wipe-down of every surface, replacing pads frequently. HVAC vent covers removed, cleaned, and filters replaced. Inside all cabinets and drawers. Light fixtures disassembled where possible. Windows interior and exterior. Floor deep clean with appropriate products for the material. Final walk-through with white-glove inspection.

What to Demand From Your Contractor

Contractors often include a “broom clean” final clean. That is not enough for a luxury home. Specify in your contract that the contractor will pay for a professional post-construction clean by a firm of your choosing — or deduct it from final payment. This avoids the situation where the contractor declares the job done while the home is still uninhabitable.

Timing the Move-Back

Plan 3-5 days minimum between contractor departure and full move-back for a major renovation. Day 1: HEPA vacuum and HVAC service. Day 2-3: full surface cleaning. Day 4: rest day, allowing residual dust to settle. Day 5: final touch clean and inspection. Then move back.
